Election Day 2016

On May 3, 2016, Shelly Laurenzo was elected to the at-large seat of the Waynesboro, Virginia School Board with 57.51 percent or 1,290 votes.

Previously, Laurenzo was appointed to fill a seat vacancy in December, 2014 and sworn in January, 2015. In her short time on the Waynesboro School Board Laurenzo has served on the Special Education Advisory Committee and the Steering Committee for the Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School (SVGS), of which she was made committee chair in fall, 2015. Additionally, Laurenzo is currently securing a student representative position on the school board, noting how vital student feedback is to the mission and vision of the school system.

Laurenzo’s campaign for the Waynesboro School Board featured frequent visits to area schools, providing an opportunity to meet with administrators, teachers, and students. The campaign was also endorsed by the Waynesboro Education Association Political Action Committee (PAC), in addition to other community endorsements sent to the press on her behalf.
